HAKEN – announce first ever live album – ‘L-1VE’ and work on next studio album

HAKEN are extremely pleased to announce the release of their first ever live album, titled ‘L-1VE’ and scheduled for release on June 22nd, 2018. Following the release of the bands much-acclaimed fourth studio album ‘Affinity’, they embarked upon their 10th anniversary tour across Europe & North America. Recorded and filmed on April 13th, 2017, at the legendary Melkweg venue on the Amsterdam stop of that tour, this represents the band’s first ever live document with tracks from across the bands discography.

“The release of official live material is a project that is long overdue and we know our existing fans have been crying out for this for some time now. Whilst we have filmed and recorded many shows in the past we have always felt there were elements of our shows that could be improved ‘visually’ before we documented and immortalised this for the world to see and that the timing for a live release  never felt right for us. This is just our nature as creative people to be so extremely self-critical and constantly strive for perfection. It is largely due to the will of the people that the idea of this project became a reality. Both the band and the label were inundated with emails requesting a live release in some shape or form, and it was actually rather flattering, so giving the people what they wanted just felt like the right thing to do.”

‘L-1VE’ will be released as a 2CD/2DVD Digipak package & as digital download. The DVD will include 4 bonus tracks filmed at ProgPower USA 2016 that also includes Mike Portnoy’s cameo appearance on gong, as well as all of the official videos from the ‘Affinity’ album. The main show and the bonus material on the DVD are also mixed in 5.1 surround sound.

The band have also revealed they have started work on their fifth studio album. They comment: “We’re currently getting our teeth stuck into the writing process for Album 5 and great ideas are forming and evolving as we speak. It’s still early days but there is a sense among us that Haken may take a darker path with this one. However, the playing field is still wide open and the direction this record takes could alter at any point. One thing is certain: We will endeavour to stick to our mandate of strong melodies and Killer riffs! ”

The Slyde announces new album “Awakening”

Following up with 2017’s EP release “Back Again”, Canadian melodic proggers The Slyde return with their first full length effort titled “Awakening”.  The band (formerly known as just Slyde) will add six tracks to Back Again’s four, of the intricate, contrapuntal prog rock they’ve honed over the last decade, on May 18 2018.

In true prog fashion, The Slyde stays true to their mission statement with their quirky arrangements, aggressive edge, and ominous lyrics.  The result is a thought provoking, high-octane album for fans of Rush, Dream Theater, Haken, Coheed and Cambria, and Megadeth.  Driven by Nathan Da Silva’s elegant vocals, Sarah Westbrook’s powering keyboard skills, and the powerful rhythm section of bassist Alberto Campuzano and drummer Brendan Soares, the band are to catch the ears of any technically minded melodic prog rock fan.

The Slyde has played over 160 shows on the Eastern Canadian circuit, including support for Protest The Hero, Ottawa Bluesfest, Canadian Music Week, IndieWeek, and Wacken Metal Battle Canada.

GAZPACHO RELEASE NEW VIDEO FOR “EXIT SUITE” FROM NEW STUDIO ALBUM SOYUZ

Ahead of the release of their brand-new studio album, Soyuz, on May 18th Norwegian Art-rock progressive outfit Gazpacho have revealed their visually stunning and emotive new video for the track “Exit Suite”

Gazpacho’s Thomas Andersen explains the song’s creative birth “Exit Suite is the cinematic sounding result of a night playing with matches in the studio. It is a song about the fear of dawn and the passing of the old day.  The matches were supposed to be our short flickering lives in the dark universe and we ended up making a rhythm out of them and building a song on that rhythm.”

Andersen continues on the creation of the video clip “The short film accompanying the song was made by Dewi Allen from the University of South Wales, Cardiff and we loved it. We had lots of ideas on what the film should be like and he had the wisdom to ignore everything we said and do it his way. It’s perfect, speaks for itself and showcases his very special talent. I hope you all agree.”

Gazpacho have become synonymous for their distinctive art rock that balances tense and beautiful arrangements, sinister and soulful melodic lines, Soyuz furthers their experimental output. With a holistic approach to the album writing process, imbuing each with a captivating concept – in Soyuz the concept was born from the idea of how beautiful moments pass and cannot be “saved for later”, so within Soyuz are interconnected tales of people and lives “frozen in time”. Taking inspiration from a multitude of eras and subject matters, including the doomed Russian space capsule Soyuz and its iconic captain Komarov; the Tibetan Buddhist funeral practice in “Sky Burial”; the inclusion of the oldest recording of the human voice from 1860 and the Hans Christian Andersen inspired “Emperor Bespoke”.

Recorded at Krypton Planet & St. Croix Fredrikstad in Norway, engineered by Thomas Andersen, Kristian Torp and Mikael Kroemer, mixed by John Rausch and mastered by Sonovo Mastering’s Thor Legvold. The artwork, designed by painter Antonio Seijas, is inspired by Russian Cold War colours and fonts from the Soyuz One flight era.

Soyuz will be released on CD / LP and digitally (with pre orders receiving “Soyuz One” and “Exit Suite” as instant downloads) and is available to pre-order HERE

Gazpacho have confirmed they will be taking Soyuz on the road this summer with a series of headline shows and an appearance at Be Prog! My Friend Festival in Barcelona, with more dates to follow

Only Echoes Remain Release New Live Single Monolith -Sophomore Album Due Late 2018

London prog/post rock quartet Only Echoes Remain have today released emotional and heavy live single Monolith, their first since last summer’s acclaimed debut concept album ‘The Exigen’t, filmed live at their recent Chaos Theory show with Godspeed-collaborator thisquietarmy.

The band says “the new record definitely feels like a natural evolution for us. There’s a lot more riffs and some heavier sections, while keeping the delicate moments we’re known for, but then further developing the melodic interplay we started to explore in songs like Aurora last year. Monolith is almost the perfect transition between the records, as it has a feel of The Exigent about it yet our sound has clearly moved on from that – I think we learned a lot about each other musically while on the road last year and are really starting to make the most of that.”

We at Progradar thought that ‘The Exigent’ shined in a sky full of  instrumental stars and glimmered brightly enough to be picked out from among the hundreds that shone on a daily basis.

Monolith takes that wonderful post-rock feel of the first album and adds massive doses of crunching, monolithic guitar riffs that give the band’s music some welcome added bite and grit and should make their forthcoming new long player a definite force to be reckoned with. Intelligent and thoughtful instrumental music with enough energy, and power to appeal to a wide kaleidoscope of music fans.

When asked if the next record will also be a concept album, guitarist Arran Oakes said “while it won’t tell a full narrative like The Exigent did, there is a concept that ties the next record together, loosely covering the events and times leading Earth to the position where the Exigent mission became necessary, so on that level it’s a sort of prequel to the last album. It’s a lot more energetic than the last one though – even louder too, somehow!”

“We’re very excited about the next chapter for OER!”

Only Echoes Remain’s sophomore album will release in late 2018, meanwhile see their captivating live show:

13/4 – Urban Bar, London
8/5 – The Star Inn, Guildford
14/5 – The Exchange, Bristol (supporting Toundra)
16/6 – Portals Festival, London
/16/8 – ArcTanGent Festival, Bristol

TESSERACT PREMIERE VIDEO FOR THE NEW SINGLE “KING”

Ahead of the release of TesseracT’s highly anticipated new studio album Sonder the band have revealed their first official video, for their new single “King”.

The emotive and viscerally challenging clip, was directed by Kyle Kadow & Steven Cleavland and shot in a snowy Wisconsin following a brutal storm, which all added to the atmospheric footage as bassist Amos Williams explains “We have been very lucky to work with two cinematographers of such vision and quality as Kyle and Steven. We gave them free reign with the creation of the first story board. They chose to explore the theme of claustrophobia and how fear can control our lives. Using a luminary figure as a beacon of hope and escape for the characters.”

Listen to ‘KING’ here: https://www.tesseractband.co.uk/

Lyricist and vocalist Daniel Tompkins expands on the song’s concept by saying “Far too often we find ourselves lead into conflict and inner turmoil. Life is surely a battle, history has a bad habit of repeating itself and when living with the constraints of an onerous life it’s easy to overlook the greatest gift we’ve ever received: life itself”.

onder due to be released through Kscope on 20th April, adds significant firepower to the band’s arsenal, blending the harsh abrasiveness of One (2011) and progressive ethereal elements of Altered State (2013) with the accessibility of Polaris (2015)Sonder is streamlined, honest and direct with all the trademark TesseracT dreamy atmospherics and bending grooves. Sonder was recorded in the UK at 4D Sounds, Celestial Sounds and Project Studios, engineered by the band and Aiden O’Brien with mastering by Acle Kahney, and cover artwork designed by Amos Williams.

Sonder will be released on CD / 2CD – featuring binaural album bonus disc / black LP / Crystal Clear vinyl LP / picture disc (exclusive to the band’s webstores) and digitally (with digital album pre-order receiving “Luminary” & “King” as an instant downloads) and is available to pre order HERE

TELEPATHY ANNOUNCE TOUR DATES & FESTIVAL APPERANCES

Now with 2 full length albums under their belt; 2017’s acclaimed ‘Tempest’ and their 2014 debut album ‘12 Areas’, Telepathy has been embraced with open arms by even the most unyielding fans of post metal, black metal, hardcore, doom and sludge alike; a testament to their inspired, nuanced and emotionally punishing take on metal. With such an array of styles and emotions forming a unique and cohesive whole, Telepathy displays an uncanny ability to unite fans of all types of heavy music and draw them into their mysterious and alluring world.

This summer they are set to head out on a series of tour dates across Europe with Dopelord, Rosetta and The Ocean alongside festival appearances at Desert Fest, ArcTanGent and Dunk Festival. Guitarist Richard Powley comments:
‘Playing live is the driving force of this band and touring is what we live for.  Since the release of ‘Tempest’ things have been getting bigger and bigger for this band and we’re honoured to be heading out on the road once again this spring!

We are of course thrilled to be playing select shows in the UK, Desertfest London as well as headlining the second stage of the amazing Dunk! Festival and supporting the Ocean Collective and Rosetta on a couple of dates before heading across Germany to Poland playing full headlining shows’
The spring of 2017 marked the release of Telepathy’s second sonic offering, ‘Tempest’. The 52 minute concept album; recorded at Orgone Studios with producer/engineer Jaime Gomez Arellano, enjoyed notably positive reviews across print media outlets, blogs and webzines from all corners of the globe and demonstrated a departure from their frenzied debut, ’12 Areas’.
The album depicted the harrowing journey of a person beset with grief and faced with total isolation after awaking from a great flood. ‘Tempest’ guides the listener on a journey through awakening, desolation and finally acceptance.
In support of ‘Tempest’, the band took to the road to stun audiences across the continent during 3 extensive tours of the UK and Europe. From performances in the clubs of the UK, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland and Romania, to appearances at the legendary Roadburn Festival in the Netherlands, Berlin Swamp Fest and Into the Void Festival, the band’s furious live show has made Telepathy one of the most talked about bands in the heavy metal underground and has gained them a substantial and devoted fan base along the way, owing greatly to their unwavering commitment to touring and recording.

New video for ‘I Don’t Know Why’ by KINO featuring Pete Trewavas, John Mitchell and Craig Blundell

Kino are set to release their new album ‘Radio Voltaire’ on March 23rd, 2018, arriving 13 years after the band’s much-loved debut ‘Picture’ back in 2005. It sees John Mitchell (It Bites, Lonely Robot) & Pete Trewavas (Marillion) teaming up once more, with Craig Blundell (Steven Wilson) on drums & John Beck (It Bites) guesting on keyboards.

Yesterday saw the release of the third and final track to be taken from the album prior to release, titled ‘I Don’t Know Why’:

Pete Trewavas comments: “This is a kind of Jellyfish/Queen inspired song which I wrote just towards the end of the first Kino album sessions. It was just too late to be on the record but I remember playing it to John Mitchell while we were at his finishing off the ‘Picture’ album. At the time I expected it to be on the second album, which never happened until all these years later.”

The album will be available on Limited CD Digipak (including bonus tracks), Gatefold 180g Double Vinyl (incl. CD) & Digital Download. Digital pre-orders on iTunes and Amazon receive ‘The Dead Club’ immediately. Pre-order now here: www.insideoutmusicshop.com

ecorded at the end of 2017, writing began at the end of that Summer. “We actually began the writing process in late August” says John Mitchell. “Pete had a few tunes and so did I, and we went from there.” Mitchell and Trewavas were both a crucial part of the original band more than a decade ago, with the former providing lead vocals and guitar parts, while the latter played his trademark bass lines and also contributed backing vocals.

Keyboard player John Beck, who is also a bandmate of Mitchell’s in It Bites, has been brought back. But while he was fully involved on the debut album, this time his role is that of a guest musician. “Yes, I am delighted to say we’ve gone John on board. His keyboard playing is splattered throughout the album, and I’ve also done the odd keyboard part myself.” The task of drummer this time fell to Craig Blundell, as Mitchell explains: “This time around Craig was the obvious choice to be the drummer, as far as I was concerned. I have worked with him so much that there was nobody else in the frame.”

Of the albums direction, Mitchell illustrates: “The title sounds very cool and obviously there’s a connection with the band Cabaret Voltaire. But Voltaire himself (the 18th century French philosopher) had a fascination with death, which appealed to me. He also stood for freedom of speech and freedom of religion. On top of that, I love the idea of a radio station that would reflect his views on life and cut through the bullshit which seems to be all over politics. Now, that is the type of radio station I think would reflect what a lot of us want to hear.”

The album cover has been designed by Paul Tippett, who is one of the most in demand artists of the modern era. “I like what he’s done with this sleeve. It reminds me of Moulin Rouge meets ‘Live And Let Die’. It is very striking, and I am sure everyone will have their own interpretation of what it reminds them of.”
